Consistency: The Only Formula You Really Need
The most important thing is to JUST show up. Try. That's the biggest thing getting in our way.
As many of you know, I’ve spent over a decade working alongside some of the most prolific content creators and influencers of our generation (yes, millennials, of course). And here’s what I’ve learned: the path to success really boils down to one thing—consistency.
Showing up, creating, and providing content that truly helps people.
Which is why I need to come clean. At the start of 2024, I set a big goal: to actually start writing long-form content on a platform I’ve grown to love—Substack. I wanted to share my career journey, the ups and downs (as I do on Linkedin right now), and what it’s felt like to always be a little different. I envisioned building a community for millennial women like me who don’t want to follow the status quo—the ones who moved to a big city to chase their dreams (and I’ve learned a lot in the past ten years living in NYC), even when they didn’t see anyone like them to look up to.
And I did what every ambitious person does: I wrote this prolific post about how I’d be writing twice a week… and then… I didn’t. I got stuck.
What do I write? What do I share? The overthinking stopped me in my tracks.
But as I sit here now, transfixed on the news showing LA in flames, I’m struck by the heartbreaking truth: we aren’t promised tomorrow. All we have is now.
So, why don’t we show up? Why don’t we just start?
The only person getting in your way is you.
This is the year of not holding back. This is the year of showing up.
The Holiday Reset: Lessons From Mel Robbins
Over the glorious holiday break (I hope you took some real time off—I managed two whole weeks!), I devoured Mel Robbins’ new book, The Let Them Theory: A Life-Changing Tool That Millions of People Can't Stop Talking About.
It’s a must-read. Truly.
One of the biggest takeaways for me (it’s almost a subtext in the book, but it hit me hard) is this: the root of so much suffering, especially in business, is the obsession with being different.
Think about it. People pour so much time and energy into trying to reinvent the wheel. But what if the secret isn’t reinventing—it’s following a proven playbook?
Here’s an example Mel shares: she wanted to become a professional keynote speaker. She spent years spinning her wheels, trying to figure out how to stand out. And then she realized… what if she just asked successful keynote speakers how they did it? Their advice was simple:
Create a website with a photo of yourself speaking at a keynote. Include testimonials that showcase why people love your talks.
Outline your services. Be clear about what you offer and what people can expect from your keynotes.
That’s it. Start with the basics—the basics that work. Follow the formula. And from there, you can make it your own.
Because let’s be real: there’s no other you. There’s no other Julian Greene like me.
Consistency: The Creator's Superpower
During my time coaching influencers and online entrepreneurs, this lesson couldn’t ring more true. So many people spend years watching others build followings and dreaming of one day creating their own online community.
But they get stuck. They overthink. They don’t know where to start.
Here’s the secret: start by showing up.
I’ll tell you what sets creators like Caralyn Mirand, Two Peas and Their Pod, and Tracy Campoli apart: they show up every single day. Even when they don’t feel like it.
Substack SEO: Getting Started with Your Voice
If you’re starting a blog or Substack this year, remember to keep things simple and strategic:
Use keywords naturally. Think about what your audience is searching for. For this post, I focused on terms like "consistency," "creator superpower," and "showing up."
Write an engaging headline. A clear and exciting title will draw readers in and help with discoverability.
Link to other posts and resources. (See what I did above?) Backlinks boost credibility and keep readers engaged.
Optimize your opening paragraph. Make it compelling and reflective of your post’s key ideas—Google uses it as a preview in search results!
That’s my plan for 2025: to show up. To follow the formula of consistency.
And I can’t wait to see where it leads.
What about you?
What’s something you’ve been holding back on? What would it look like if you just started?
Let’s do this together. Let’s make 2025 the year of showing up.
